An automated cancer scan with no harmful radiation in under 2 minutes*
OA Signal is building the first scanner that's as gentle as an ultrasound, but shows what ultrasound can't: the blood and oxygen that separate healthy tissue from cancer, up to 4 cm beneath the skin.
Light goes in. Sound comes out.
- 01
Light is delivered
The scanner sends pulses of near‑infrared light into the body without physical contact.
- 02
Blood is heated
Blood vessels absorb energy from different colors of light to reveal the oxygen saturation level.
- 03
Sound is generated
Sudden heating causes expansion, generating a faint ultrasonic signal.
- 04
Vibration is seen
An interferometric laser listens to tiny acoustic vibrations on the skin, all from a distance, no probe contact or gel.
Each scan is designed to produce a 3-D map of blood and oxygenation, distinguishing oxygen-rich from oxygen-poor blood.
Every modality makes you choose.
- CT, MRI, PET reach deep, but rely on radiation or injected contrast.
- OCT is gentle, but sees only a few millimeters down.
- Ultrasound reaches depth, but can't show blood oxygenation.
- Today's opto-acoustic needs gel, contact, and slow manual scanning.
- Centimeters deep, in 3-D: rich detail, deep enough to matter.
- Hemoglobin & oxygen saturation: not just structure, but how tissue is working.
- No radiation, contrast, gel, or contact: the comfort and safety trade-offs, gone.
- A fast, automated sweep: less prep, no cleanup, built to keep a clinic moving.
Built for the breast-imaging clinic.
The clinical scanner is where our focus is. The same core technology also powers a research platform and an industrial inspection system, each on its own track.
